Happy Tuesday

For me, Thanksgiving break begins tomorrow after work. It seems it started this morning for the rest of the office...
I wish I had a little pup to keep me company (just look at those little leggins!).

The Prettiest of Pretties

Nadinoo Handmade and Need Supply Co. there's more where these came from

Oh my! If you happen to be rolling in dough and looking for ways to brighten my holiday, you could buy me any or all of the items from one or both of these stores. You'd sure have one happy Sissy...

Dear Salt Lake City,

Little Cottonwood Canyon

I miss the mountains *and* the wide city streets. I miss that the streets have a shoulder to pull over onto, that they [streets] don't change names 3 times in 15 blocks, that finding an address is like playing Battleship. I miss Bombay House, Sage's, Ichiban, Beehive Tea Room, Gourmandise, D'Bolla, Anthropologie, Nordstrom, Emilie Jane, Hip and Humble, and loads of great peeps. It's amazing how progressive Salt Lake seems after coming to the South. I mean, in SL we all bitch about how everything is 20 years behind, oppressed, etc. etc. but I've realized it's really only because we're so near Seattle, Portland, San Francisco (i.e. some of the most progressive cities in the world). The South, I have a lot more to say on the subject, specifically about the ways in which it has made me appreciate Utah in new ways--I'll save it for another time. Maybe when we sit down for a chat. But really, Salt Lake's a pretty great little mountain town, jus' sayin'.

Paper Pretties

Beautiful stationary and cards. Fun, whimsical prints and calling cards. Loving Rifle Paper Co. this Monday morn.

There are some seriously cool things happening in The Crafty Hedgehog's etsy shop.

Sewing Room (nook) Inspiration

The scoop: My mother (who is an incredible seamstress) has always had a "sewing room." An entire room dedicated to the storage of fabrics and notions and patterns and cutting tables and machines and irons and, well, everything. The room has never been known for it's tidiness, but seriously, how amazing is having your own sewing room?

So, I am less fortunate when it comes to my workspace/craftspace. I had a plastic microwave stand that I was no longer using in the kitchen that I paired with a chair I refinished to use as a dance prop and turned it into a sewing-slash-work table (I know, glamorous). This little workspace I created was again transformed into Darling's computer desk (still glamorous). Mostly, this story details and highlights the lack of furniture and storage Darling and I have...

So, these images jumped out at me in their use of space, furnishing, function, and aesthetic. Maybe soon (fingers crossed) I can carve out a little functional space of my own? The thread pegs down the side of the dresser in the top photo is brilliant (just remember to wind them up when you're finished using them) mixed with the chalkboards in the second... I love the idea of refinishing and using a dresser or armoir as a little hide-it-all-away-yet-store-everything-in-the-same-place piece... my brain is seriously churning.

Darling and I are talking furniture purchases now that we have settled into our jobs. We're talking vintage and refurbished English farm tables, seating, reading nook accessories... all in due time (of course).

The issue we face is that rather than buying furniture "just 'cause" to have furniture, we wait until we find something that really strikes our fancy. This leads to us essentially having nowhere to sit but on the couch. During my online browsing today, I thought I'd consult etsy's search bar for 'furniture' which turned out to be a pretty stellar idea. Currently, I'm struck by some of the pieces by michaelarras. I love the bold, simple lines and shapes and sturdy design.
