Endless Summer + Happy Weekend

With the approach of labor day (eeps! is 2010 slipping through our fingers or what??) I figured I either needed to finish the Endless Summer Playlist or pretend it never happened and abandon ship completely... Soooo, Let's do it!

I've been trying to upload it to podplaylist.com so that anyone who wishes could download it from itunes, but I've had no luck. If anyone has any idea how to share playlists, let me know and I'll get it up asap. You may not love every song, the order may not be perfect. It may seem a bit slow at times but remember we're going for that wistful, dreamy, sun-flare, cotton lawn dresses, endless summer. Although all elements of summer are incorporated, this is probably not your road trip playlist or your fun in the sun playlist. Instead, it's playful and soft and lazy and nostalgic...

Without further ado:

Blue Turning Gray - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
*I Want You - Bob Dylan
Up In The Treehouse - Cody Chesnutt
*Trashcan - Delta Spirit
Under Control - The Strokes
Pets - Porno For Pyros
Georgia - Willie Nelson

*Symphony 9 & the Sunshine - Emily Wells
In This Home On Ice - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah

Green = Song Title * = link to where it has been previously mentioned on this blog

I do hope you enjoy it. I'm already scheming up a fall playlist, or 3, fall is my fav.

Happy + Safe Long Weekend (woo hoo!)

Notes: 1) Don't ask why Clap Your Hands Say Yeah got 2 appearances on this list it just happened. I have enjoyed their self-titled album since it was released, to be honest, I have no idea if they have released any others since.
2) I think this song is perfect. 3) If you don't own the Headphone Masterpiece you should really consider it. I'm so enchanted by his voice. 4) My studio apartment in college was directly behind the Gray Whale 1 block from campus at the UofU. Bands occasionally do promo jam sessions there during the afternoon, Delta Spirit was one of those gigs. Darling was floored and immediately purchased their CD. We both continue to be impressed by them. 5) The Strokes just take me back to summer days before I needed to work full or even part time, talk about carefree 6) I do think we'd make great pets. 7)  I saw him play this at the close of summer 09 on the Mississippi. Again, perfection. 8) This song was featured in a piece titled "Summer Preserves" for Project:Motion's "emphasis on blue" show. It gives me shivers. 9) I just love Emily Wells. She's a great mix of classical and edgy, her voice is so unique. 10) See #1. 11) I'm not a cult-ish Pearl Jam fan the way my better half is, but I do really love Eddie's voice and really love the Into the Wild soundtrack he did. 12) This is the summer roadtrip song, right? top down, 40 miles before you reach the coast in Costa Mesa or San Luis Obispo... 13) Don't make fun of me for adding a Citizen Cope song... the dive shop in Curacao played Citizen Cope everyday and it has been making me smile ever since. 14) More Adventurous is one of those albums that makes me think of the drive through the Colorado Plateau on the way to Flagstaff, AZ. I think I memorized every word while making that drive. 15) Love Camera Obscura. 16) Bon Iver has had me in a trance for the last few years, but particularly now. I listen to them when I need to escape into my headphones at work. 17) Nick Drake, you bastard. I have an immense appreciation for the music this man created. 18) Do I really need to put forth more thoughts on how brilliant I think this duo is? 19) Because I think we should end on a high note :) If for some reason you are very interested and I haven't got the playlist exported, just email me...
